Councillor Everrold Williams to retire

LINSTEAD:

ONE OF the stalwarts of the Jamaica Labour Party and a vice-president of the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) Everrold Williams, has signalled his intention not to seek re-election as councillor in the next parish council elections.

He has served as councillor for the Gregory Park Division and is currently the councillor for the Ensom City division. He also served as Mayor of the St. Catherine Parish Council.

Councillor Williams said he was a firm believer in the system of Local Government where councillors were better able to serve the people of Jamaica at the grassroots level.

Councillor Williams also worked among the sugar workers of Jamaica whom he represented. He sought to bring about a number of improvements in matters such as housing and better working conditions for cane cutters and their families.

Councillor Williams played an active role in the twinning of the City of Lambert, England to the St. Catherine Parish Council. Several other parish councillors said Mr. Williams would always be remembered for his role in Local Government and wished him all the best in his retiring years.
