THE EDITOR, Sir:
THERE ARE four issues that I feel strongly about.
First: It is a fact that the PNP have broken the Code of Conduct in their "baby coffin display" and "Seaga baby dead" in public meetings. It is my opinion that the punishment of a mere apology is a non-punishment.
I feel strongly that they the PNP, should have been banned from any further campaigning. A death threat of an unborn child, is not funny and should not be taken lightly.
Second: On the question of colour. Our motto is: "Out of many one people", All Jamaicans have a right to participate in the Miss Jamaica contest and any other Jamaican contests, sports etc. Our skin pigmentation does not determine our national status.
Third: I am tired of reading letters to the editor written by Jamaicans who freely chose to flee the country and live abroad but who criticise and start their letters with "I am a Jamaican and love my country." If they really love Jamaica why don't they come home now and offer their expertise to help lift us out of the hole that we are in? One that they may have helped create by leaving and taking their knowledge with them.
Fourth: The lawless unplanned development in the Constant Spring Square. There is a complete lack of town planning here. There are vendors on every square inch of the sidewalks and pedestrians are forced to walk on the road. Wares are hung on fences and noise blares from sound systems and parked vehicles day and night and in general there is a sense of total confusion in the area. Surely the relevant authorities i.e. The Town Planning Authority, Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation etc. can do something about this.
I am etc.,
A BORN JAMAICAN
