Cops kill Lawrence Tavern's 'Taliban'

ONE OF the police "most wanted" men, Norris Brown, 20, nicknamed 'Taliban', from Lawrence Tavern, St. Andrew, was slain yesterday afternoon, during an alleged shoot-out with the police.

A Remington shotgun with serial number PC289289 and four cartridges were taken from him, the police said.

Police reports are that about 4:30 while they were on operation in Mount Ogle district, they approached a house from which one of two men fired at them. They fired back and later discovered that Brown had been shot.

WANTED FOR SEVERAL CRIMES

The police said that Brown had been wanted on several counts of murder, shooting, extortion and robbery committed in the Lawrence Tavern community. It is alleged that he used to extort money from bus operators.

Two months ago the police offered a $100,000 reward for information about his whereabouts. Supt. Claude Samuels, head of the St. Andrew North Division, said the money was put up by residents and members of the business community of St. Andrew North.
