Melbourne off to Florida


Walsh and Hall

MELBOURNE, BOLSTERED by four guest players, leave the island this afternoon for Florida where they will participate in fund-raising activities for the club over the weekend.

The activities include two cricket matches - one tomorrow against a team of past Melbourne players residing in Florida, one on Sunday against a Florida All Stars XI, and a dinner/dance on Saturday evening.

The two matches will be played at Tradewinds Park and the dinner/dance will be held at the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale.

Guest speaker at the dinner/dance will be West Indies Cricket Board president the Reverend Wes Hall and music will be provided the Mighty Vikings. World leading Test wicket-taker Courtney Walsh will be honoured at the function.

Members of the team are Robert Samuels - captain, Walsh, Marlon Samuels, Donovan Pagon, Carlton Baugh Jnr., Llewelyn Meggs, Ray Stewart, Dillon Ebanks, Aubrey Wollaston and Conroy Miller along with guest players Ricardo Powell, Mario Ventura, Ryan Cunningham, Audley Sanson.

The team will be managed by Ruddy Williams and accompanied by club president Tony Becca.

The activities are being organised by the Florida-based Melbourne Cricket Inc through directors Arthur Bell, Mrs. Carol Botek, Don Dayly, Trevor Ffrench and Diana Greenidge with the main sponsors being Air Jamaica, Jamaica Reservations, Laparkan Shipping, Western Union, Jamaica Pegasus Hotel and Sandals.
