NWC's water has no colour

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM to respond to and correct certain errors of fact contained in your page B9 article on Friday, September 13, entitled "JLP questions water pipe removal."

Please note that Mr. Basil Waite is not, and has never been, an employee of the National Water Commission (NWC). Neither were the identified pipes in the possession of the Commission. It is therefore very unfortunate that the NWC should be placed at the centre of an issue to which we are not directly connected.

It is also unfortunate because the National Water Commission has taken deliberate and decisive steps to ensure that its work in delivering water and wastewater services to the people of Jamaica does not become mired in partisan politics.

In fact, in view of the impending general elections, the NWC has recently issued a reminder to all members of staff emphasising the need for the most professional and non-partisan behaviour during this period. Our customers and the people of Jamaica deserve and are assured of professional, honest and non-partisan conduct from the providers of this essential service. As is often said here, "Water has no colour" - neither orange, green, blue nor any other colour.

I am, etc.,

CHARLES BUCHANAN

Manager

Corporate Public Relations

National Water Commission
