GOAL ... William Knibb's Recardo Geddes (left in white) turns to celebrate after watching his header beat Cornwall College's goalkeeper Tedroy Watson, in the first half of their Pepsi/Sports Plus DaCosta Cup Zone A game played at Jarrett Park on Saturday. Geddes, who was later sent off, had given his team the lead but the champions came back to earn a 2-2 draw.
WESTERN BUREAU:
FORMER CHAMPIONS and zone leaders Munro College, will travel to Black River in today's feature game of a rescheduled round of matches in the Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition.
Both teams are on six points from two wins in Zone E and three points will go a far way today in giving either a leg up on the other as the battle for zone honours continues.
Two other schools with unbeaten records will also be in action as another former winner, Dinthill Technical, will host Glengoffe in Zone J while Happy Grove, which has won their two matches played so far, will be in action against Seaforth in Zone L.
Today's round was rescheduled from last Wednesday after heavy rains from Tropical Storm Isadore affected the island. Today's games will also see the start of a hectic period for schoolboy teams, some of which will play as many as three matches over the next five days.
The schedule is expected to get even more hectic after the continued heavy rains forced the postponement of more than half of Saturday's games as well.
Today, Munro will be hoping to continue their good start and add to their eight goals scored so far against a Black River team that is coming off a 3-1 win over Balaclava on Saturday.
Munro's game against arch-rivals St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) was not played due to fog in the Malvern area and they will be eager to get back into action after more than a week off.
Dinthill have won their only game so far but it was big win, 3-0 over rivals Charlemont, and will set their sights on taking three more points from Glengoffe.
Happy Grove will also be in a confident mood when they travel to Seaforth High as they seek to extend their win streak to four.
Defending champions Cornwall College will be forced to lift their play when they travel up to Long Hill to face Anchovy who will be hot to score their second win over the 11-time champions.
Cornwall have been less than impressive this season and depend way too much on the scoring abilities of Dane Richards and Kirkland Smith who have accounted for all four goals to date.
The Cornwall coaching staff will have one more worry to deal with after central defender Andrew Walker was sent off against William Knibb on Saturday.
Anchovy have managed just a point from their two games but will be playing at their upgraded homefield for the first time this season and will be going all out for a win.
Herbert Morrison Technical will be seeking to return to the top of the table when they travel to Wakefield to face Muschett who were held to a 0-0 draw by Anchovy on Saturday after upsetting Cornwall the previous week.
