Innswood to clash with Spanish Town

CINDERELLA TEAM Innswood may have their fairytale run in the Manning Cup curtailed when they meet last year's beaten finalists Spanish Town in a key Group B clash at Chedwin Park this afternoon.

Innswood are on a roll with three wins and are sitting comfy at pole position in the group but Spanish Town are the favourites for more reasons than one. Chief among them is the fact that they have a better unit all-round.

Spanish Town have played only one game so far in which they blanked Penwood 3-0 and after an awesome run last season, are not about to let the Dwight Angus-coached debutantes steal their thunder.

Innswood admire and respect their fellow St. Catherine opponents but all this will be benched, if even temporarily, as they go in search of respectability.

Eight other games are on in the Pepsi/Sports Plus-sponsored schoolboy competition that took a break due to bad weather most of last week.

Group A leaders Ascot host Wolmer's at Ferdie Neita Park in what is also expected to be a keenly contested match.

Playing in only their second season of the competition, Ascot have made a fairly good start with two wins and only one loss.

Wolmer's, on the other hand, have played only one match, won, and will be hoping to keep that intact.

Holy Trinity will seek to get three points off Greater Portmore at Breezy Castle. They have won their only match to date while Greater Portmore have only managed to get a point from one loss and a drawn game.

Another Group A clash sees Excelsior against bottom-of-the-barrel Ardenne at the Courtney Walsh Oval.

High-riding Jamaica College, who are second behind Innswood in the Group B standings, tackle Haile Selassie who are yet to register a win.

Penwood will be hoping to get off the mark when they host Donald Quarrie at the Cable & Wireless Sports Club on Chalmer's Avenue, Campion take on Denham Town at Seprod field and Meadowbrook face Camperdown at the Vauxhall field.

Defending champions Bridgeport visit St. Catherine at Prison Oval.
