Voting for our children's future

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AS WE approach the general election, I sincerely hope that, as a people, we can unite about the direction on which this country should proceed into the future. Mankind has made more technological progress in the last 50 years than in any other period in history and consequently the quality of life and the standard of living have improved dramatically in the civilised world, even though much is yet to be done to alleviate the harsh conditions of life in many parts of the world.

Jamaica has made a lot of progress over the years in many respects but we could have made a lot more if we had united on those critical and fundamental issues which ultimately affect our children's prospects for a better life. As the wheel was being invented, we simply had to run with it. Instead, we chose to reinvent it, while others around us forged ahead with the times.

No matter which political party we favour, this time around, let us unite around our children for God's sake, for they deserve to inherit the Kingdom of God. Not us.

I am, etc.,

VICTOR E. NUGENT
