BORDERED BY two very busy thoroughfares, Ruthven Road and Chelsea Avenue, newly-refurbished Knutsford Court Hotel offers the tropical experience. From the original Sutton Place Hotel the drive-through has been transformed into a tropical courtyard with variations of hibiscus and yam vines.
On Tuesday, members of the media were invited to be among the first to sample all that The Melting Pot Restaurant and Lounge has to offer a day before its official opening. As the name suggests, it offers "A fusion of fine Caribbean and international cuisine". Appetisers included smoked marlin, callaloo fritters, chicken and coconut soup and the very interesting plaintain twist fried plantain with an ackee dip. At first sceptical, this dip, the brainchild of sous chefs, Dean Lee and Micheal Vincent Allen, is extremely spicy.
The rest of the meal which included crusted lamb rack, jerked ribs, jewel rice, Rasta rice, rasta pasta, can be best described by the cliché, scrumptious. Dessert, which consisted of royal fruit and nut and sour sop cheese cake was simple divine. The lounge and restaurant is in a romanticised Caribbean setting.
Apart from The Melting Pot, The Knutsford Court Hotel offers 180 standard, superior and junior suites all equipped with kitchenettes and ideal for the corporate traveller.
