Theirs were good innings

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS with great sadness that I heard of the death of another veteran in the field of broadcasting. The tragic death of Hugh Crosskill has been hardly absorbed and now Dwight Whylie.

Yet theirs were good innings. Each upheld the highest norms of the profession and it is my hope that someone will write about them for this generation. Each was a pioneer and I had the privilege of working with and observing each of them in their formative years.

I am far away but memory does eclipse both time and space and they are still for me among the great ones in their field. May I extend my sympathy to their families, one belatedly, but to both sincere. May their footprints be guides to those who follow.
