A fitting funeral for Carter

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE ALLOTTED life of man, as the holy book says, is three score years and ten and if you live longer it is a blessing. The loving Archbishop was blessed.

However my purpose, Mr. Editor, is not to elucidate his life, for that has been done by pens more eloquent than mine. But I do not know the powers that be who decide which citizen of the nation should be given a official funeral. As far as I know it is mostly politicians and certain 'icons' of commerce, whatever that is.

My purpose of writing this letter is to glorify those who thought it fit to give our humble Archbishop Samuel Carter his last earthly honour.

I am, etc.,

RAYMOND GOLDSMITH

Ocho Rios
