Denbigh, Dinthill win big

WESTERN BUREAU:

TWO HAT-TRICKS highlighted yesterday's round of matches in the Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition.

Damion Willis led Denbigh Comprehensive on a 8-0 romp over newcomers Winston Jones in a Zone F game while Orlando Dorma bagged a three-timer as Dinthill Technical extended their winning streak to three games with a 6-1 thrashing of Tacius Golding in Zone J.

Charlemont stayed in contention with Dinthill however as they too scored a win, beating Ewarton 2-0. Both teams are locked on nine points.

In Zone F, Bellefield continued their strong start to the season as they won their fifth in a row, edging Manchester High 1-0 in Mandeville to extend their lead to five points and they look well set to be the first school to qualify for the inter-zone round.

There is a three-way tie for the lead in Zone A after Herbert Morrison Technical and William Knibb scored wins yesterday. Herbert Morrison edged Anchovy 3-2 while two Delroy Ellis second-half goals led William Knibb to a 2-0 win over inter-parish rivals Muschett Comprehensive.

The teams are now tied with defending champions Cornwall College on seven points. Herbert Morrison are marginally ahead of Cornwall on goal difference however.

Ellis scored a header in the 62nd minute after Muschett's goalkeeper Ramando Johnson misplayed the ball and again in the 82nd when he powered home past the goalkeeper.

Black River created a big upset in Zone E with a 1-0 win over former champions St. Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) in Santa Cruz to take over the zone leadership from Munro who were held to their second straight 0-0 draw, this time by Lacovia.

Black River are on 10 points, two more than Munro while STETHS are third place with seven points.

In Zone B, Frome Technical and Grange Hill extended their lead over Rusea's after wins over Merlene Ottey and Green Island respectively.

Frome beat Merlene Ottey 2-1 while Grange Hill beat Green Island 3-1 and are both on nine points, two more than Rusea's.
