THE EDITOR, Sir:
Anyone over 50 years of age may remember a silly old American Western song by Gene Autry or "one of those guys" of the wild wild west, the song is called "Tumbling Tumbleweed", and it went like this:
"I'll... just keep rolling along
Deep in my heart is a song,
Here... on the range I belong,
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweed."
If certain basic repeated errors, going on over the years, perpetrated by both major political parties, are not corrected by whoever wins this election, then for sure our song can go like this:
"We'll... just keep rolling along,
Deep... in our hearts it's all wrong,
Here... in this mess we belong,
Totally fleeced by the bungling bungleweed."
Please! Whoever wins, take this into account: You are in a privileged position of servitude, a humble servant of your trusting electorate. You are expected to honour your promises, and to respect and serve the hopeful and hungry hearts of your people with dedication, honesty and self-sacrifice.
We the people who put you there are not fools, and we will be watching you as you whiz past us in your big criss cyar.
I am, etc.,
