A provocative awakening

THE EDITOR: Sir,

My interest was sparked when I read Tony Deyal's article "Dancing on the ceiling" published Monday, September 23, 2002.

Not only was there much hilarity, but also very interesting comments on the fact that women, though seen as the better worker, (with the exception of a very few) scarcely reach the "top".

There is much to debate on this delicate issue, however, since time does not allow it, I must point out a few things:

1. In the Creation story it was the man (Adam) who was given the mandate to manage the earth, including naming all the animals etc.

Was God unfair when He did this? I'd think not for He did not stop there. He formed woman from a rib from man's side - an act that signifies equality.

2. How then did the change come about? It had to be man himself who for some reason or the other effected that change, possibly because he perceived from the beginning, that given a fair chance, woman would prove (as statistics are now showing) to be a better leader.

3. Jesus himself had very high regard for the women of his day. So then man, it really appears that it was you who changed the plan.

Man, don't be afraid of woman. All that is required of you is equal respect and equal opportunity. Then we can truly say woman is indeed man's helpmate.

Thanks Mr. Deyal for this provocative awakening.

I am, etc.,
