Little impact on bauxite from 'Lili'

BAUXITE PRODUCTION at Alumina Partners of Jamaica (ALPART) in Nain, St. Elizabeth was reduced by about 25 per cent on Monday because of the heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Lili.

The company was said to have reduced its daily production down to about 32 tons from 44 tons because some of the machinery could not operate at capacity during the heavy showers, which pelted the island between Friday and Monday night.

However, Lance Neita, ALPART's public relations manager, said the problems were not expected to last for more than a day or two. "Yes, the company's production is down by about 25 per cent, but it's not expected to last for more than 48 hours at most," Mr. Neita said.
