Porus take care of Bellefield

By Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

TWO GOALS from Kadian Webley led Porus to an upset 3-1 win over the previously unbeaten Bellefield High in Zone F of the Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition yesterday.

Devon Nangle also scored for Porus to avenge a first-round 2-1 loss as Bellefield's five-game win streak was snapped.

Porus stayed in second place on 13 points, just goals difference ahead of Manchester High who repeated their first-round 1-0 win over Denbigh.

Just three of the 10 games were played as the schedule continues to be affected by rains associated with Tropical Storm Lili. A number of games were called off due to soggy fields.

More than 50 games have had to be rescheduled over the past two weeks because of the two tropical storms.

In the other game played yesterday, two goals from Jermaine Brown and one each from Dwayne Jumpp and Marlon Sommerville led Rusea's to a 4-1 beating of Merlene Ottey in a Zone B game played in Lucea.

The Rusea's players wore black wristbands in honour of former Rusea's player Anthony Fogarty who died in hospital on Monday night of cancer.

The win returned Rusea's to the top of the zone with 10 points, one more than Frome Technical and Grange Hill who were idle yesterday.

Meanwhile, 18 more games are scheduled to be played this afternoon as the return round continues.

Defending champions Cornwall College will be seeking their second win of the season over Anchovy when they meet at Jarrett Park while Herbert Morrison will host Muschett Comprehensive in Bogue.
