MR. MICHAEL Lee-Chin, Chairman
of National Commercial Bank, presented a special award to Mr. Derrick Simon,
a customer of the bank, at a meeting of the bank's board of directors on Thursday,
September 26. Mr. Simon, a coffee producer who banks at the New Kingston branch
of NCB, experienced difficulties when he visited the branch recently. Out of
frustration he lodged a complain with the bank. The incident was brought to
the attention of the bank's management. After discussing the article, Aubyn
Hill, Managing Director and Michael Lee-Chin, Chairman both agreed that the
customer should be recognised.
In making the presentation, Mr. Lee Chin expressed his delight at meeting Mr. Simon and thanked him "for taking the time and effort to help us improve our service to customers."
Mr. Hill, speaking at the presentation, reiterated the bank's goal to make a difference in Jamaica's financial industry with excellent customer service. He complimented Mr. Simon on his writing skills and for taking the time not only to write to complain but also to put forward clear and specific recommendations as to how NCB's services can be improved. Mr. Hill stated that the recommended changes are being implemented across NCB's network of branches. Continuing he said "there is no doubt that in the near future we will be making more of these awards, however, over time we will ensure that the number of awards will be reduced as we improve the efficiency and responsiveness of our staff and services to anticipate and meet our customers' needs." Mr. Simon in his reply commended the bank for accepting his comments and criticism in such good faith - not with malice but with sincerity - and expressed his pleasure at being the recipient of the first award.
