A very short-sighted concern

THE EDITOR, SIR:
In response to a letter titled "My four concerns" the writer in their concern stated that Jamaicans living abroad should not offer any criticism of how Jamaica is running.

This is a very short-sighted concern. When since, emigrating to another country stripped us of our Jamaican citizenship? When since, emigrating to another country robbed us of our love of our country? Migration was forced upon a lot of us by economic and social conditions.

I remember times when mothers doing domestic work in foreign countries supported entire families in Jamaica. These people were sending valuable foreign exchange back to Jamaica thus performing a valuable service to the entire Jamaica.

Are we to tell these people sorry you have no say in the way Jamaica should develop?

Jamaica does not have the resources to generate jobs for the Jamaicans living there now, imagine if some of us were not allowed to emigrate.

I am, etc.,
