'Breeder' leader? Are they animals now?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WATCHED the television broadcast of the Jamaica Labour Party's public meeting in Half-Way Tree Sunday night, and could hardly believe my ears and eyes when the crowd shouted the word "Breeder" over and over again when the Leader was introduced. And I was shocked to hear next morning from a friend who was there that Mrs. Carla Seaga applauded, laughed, and did a little jig on the stage to the beat of the refrain.

I had heard that this is the word being used by the JLP supporters at meetings when Mr. Seaga arrives or is about to speak. I did not believe it then, but it was confirmed for me Sunday night.

What this suggests to me is that if there is a "breeder" then there has to be a "breedie". If Mrs. Seaga subscribes to this, I want her to know that as a mother of two children that my husband is not a breeder. He is not a cattle nor a horse breeder. And neither am I a "breedie".

I am ashamed to see that Mr. Seaga obviously approves of this title, but even moreso that Mrs. Seaga is obviously pleased.

I am, etc.,

J.E.

Kingston
