Bull Bay meet Harbour View

By Nodley Wright, Staff Reporter

MOST EYES should be turned east this afternoon. At 3:00 p.m. the rising stars of the East, Bull Bay go head-to-head with their more established neighbours Harbour View at the venue they share - Harbour View Mini-Stadium. This National Premier League matchup will be one of four in the Corporate Area and St. Catherine.

Also in action are early pacesetters Waterhouse who have faltered. They go up against last year's losing finalists and current leaders Hazard United at Constant Spring.

Constant Spring will travel to the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex to engage the defending champions Arnett Gardens who sit in third place behind Village United.

The final game this side of the island will be between fourth-placed Rivoli United and 10th-placed Seba United at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

In the western end of the island, bottom-placed Wadadah FC and second-placed Village United meet at Jarrett Park while Tivoli Gardens, who slipped from first to sixth following their weekend loss to Seba, will again play away.

They head to Frome to meet Reno FC. Both of those matches start at 6:00 p.m.

The game of the day matches the fifth-placed team against the eighth-placed team with a three points separating them. Besides their geographical location and their shared home ground, both teams have a number of things in common.

Over the years a number of players from Bull Bay have represented Harbour View and a number of Harbour View players have moved to Bull Bay.

Bull Bay coach Barrington Gaynor was even attached to both teams at one point when he played for Harbour View whilst coaching Bull Bay. His captain, Milton Griffiths, was also a former Harbour View player before making the move further East.

Gaynor's lengthy stay - in addition to the number of former Harbour View players in his team - should give him some insight into the Harbour View side.

While he could count this as a plus, Harbour View coach Donovan Hayles, who was a Harbour View coaching staff before finally taking over the job of head coach, will be familiar with his former players.

Hayles would also fancy his team to get the better of their neighbours as the number of Harbour View players on the doorstep or in the national team far outweight that of Bull Bay. For Bull Bay, only Griffiths can consider himself a national contender. Player/coach Gaynor is a former national representative and his on and off the field leadership must count if an upset is to take place.
