"THE JAMAICA Labour Party is the only political organisation capable of rescuing the country at this time," said JLP returnee Bruce Golding, as he addressed the people of St. Elizabeth at a mass meeting at Middle Quarters on Monday night.
The burden of trust and the hope of the people rest on the Opposition, to rescue the country and build the economy up from hopelessness and despair, he said.
"Many of the nation's young people have their qualifications, but are unable to get a job. A good education is the foundation on which a country is built, and good education was the solid foundation for social and economic advancement. This, however, has gone down the drain, because of PNP mismanagement," Mr. Golding said.
REPUTATION ON EMPLOYMENT
He pointed out that in the last 10 years, the PNP has only created 34,000 jobs, which was what the JLP administration of the 80s provided in a single year. It was the hope of the JLP to provide enough jobs, so that jobs will hunt people, he said.
Also addressing the crowd was JLP candidate for South West St. Elizabeth, Derrick Sangster, who called on his supporters to ensure that the last nine days of the campaign be incident-free.
The JLP, he said, had a good history of growth and development. The PNP had destroyed the basic infrastructure of the country, leaving the farmers weeping and businesses closing down. He lamented the fact that the deplorable conditions of some roads in the constituency meant that many people would not be able to vote on Election Day.
