PNP rolls into St Mary

By Gloria Goffe, Gleaner Correspondent

PORT MARIA:

AS THE election campaign continues, party supporters of the PNP in St. Mary turned out in their hundreds to a mass rally on October 8.

The town square in Port Maria and the space in front of the Post Office were transformed into a sea of tangerine-clad supporters singing, dancing and waving flags. Several speakers, including the three candidates, Harry Douglas, Neil McGill and Maurice Guy, addressed the crowd before the arrival of the Prime Minister.

His arrival was met with a tumultuous welcome and Mr. Patterson expressed pleasure at the large turnout.

Topping the list of developments for the parish is the tourist industry, as the potentials are in place for this area, he said. Part of his plans for progress was the third phase of the highway which will pass through St. Mary and end in Manchioneal in Portland.

The PNP believes in continuity, the Prime Minister told the audience, and they will proceed with projects already started. He was positive that the doctors Guy and McGill, vying for seats in Central and West St. Mary, respectively, will make meaningful contributions to the betterment of the parish.

The three candidates were confident of winning their seats and called on supporters to vote for them. They outlined past achievements and promised to build on them.

Incumbents Terrence Gillette and Horace Clarke said a formal farewell to supporters, as they will no longer serve in that capacity.
