PATIENTS OF the Bustamante Hospital for Children will have many reasons to smile as Shell Gas donated valuable products, including cooking equipment and LPG, to the institution on Monday.
According to the chief executive officer, Gloria Robinson, "The need for the LPG is great as such a valuable product cannot be allowed to run out." The donation from Shell, she said, will serve the hospital for well over a year.
Ms. Robinson said that the money saved by the hospital from this generous donation will be used to improve services and facilities, as well as to procure well needed drugs on which the children depend daily.
The Bustamante Hospital for Children serves children from all over Jamaica and the Caribbean. The facility caters for patients from birth to twelve years and provides services in preventative, curative and rehabilitative care. The institution has recently added to its services, an open heart surgical theatre for children. This theatre now handles most of the surgical cases in the island with the UHWI handling the rest of the cases.
Over the years, volunteers have provided well-needed assistance to the various needs of the hospital, especially in vital areas where the resources would otherwise not be able to satisfy all demands.
According to Mario Vulinovich, chairman of the Shell Companies in Jamaica, "The future of our nation's children depend on our commitment and aptitude in caring for their critical needs. We at the Shell Company have understood and facilitated many of these needs over the years. We are therefore pleased for yet another opportunity to invest in our children by giving them the facility to have a warm meal every day. We sometimes take such opportunities for granted however, it is this very thing that will affect the future of our society. I must highlight the efforts of the Shell staff, who have played a principal role in making this venture possible. It is through their commitment that this initiative began."
