THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE RETURN of Bruce Golding to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) still has many persons including me in a quandary. This is the same man who left the JLP before the last elections proclaiming that the two major political parties could not solve the problems of Jamaicans because they were full of corruption and debauchery. He and his band of disciples (other JLP drop-outs) started the National Democratic Movement (NDM), the blue lighthouse which would cast the light of equality, social justice and constitutional reform on Jamaica's troubled political waters.
And to think that he had me fooled also when he stepped down as president of the NDM after the party failed to gain a single seat in Parliament. I thought it was a show of good leadership and set him apart from his political contemporaries who wanted to hold the reins of [party] power indefinitely. Alas, he had to prove me very wrong, and a fool at that for falling for the scams of another 'politrickster.'
We are reminded that "a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways", and we should "tek sleep mark death!" It is full time we stop allowing politicians to lie openly and still have a chance to represent us. It is time that the people of Jamaica say, "No more", because they will promise you one thing and do another.
I advise fellow Jamaicans to make themselves fully aware of the issues, and the character and integrity of their candidates, before placing an X beside any symbol. We have the power (at least for one day). Let us use it wisely!
I am etc.,
