Flood watch still on

THE METEOROLOGICAL Service yesterday extended the flash flood watch issued on the weekend and warned that more rain was likely over the next 36 to 48 hours.

The Met Service said that the rainfall was being driven by a tropical depression which was forming in the western Caribbean.

It was located about 500 kilometres west-south west of Negril Point at around 5:00 p.m. yesterday.

"We are still expecting to have cloudy conditions within the next 36 or 48 hours. There will be light to moderate rainfall and occasional outbreaks of heavy showers throughout the next 36 or 48 hours," explained yesterday's duty forecaster, Ronald Moody.

A release from the Met Service said that the depression's movement has been erratic, but that it was expected to move north, scattering heavy showers occasionally over sections of mainly central and western parishes.

The flash flood watch is in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas of West-moreland, St. Elizabeth, Manchester and Clarendon. A flash flood watch means that flooding is possible and residents are advised to take precautionary measures.
