LAST YEAR'S beaten semi-finalists, Jonathan Grant, yesterday became the fifth team to qualify for the second round of the Pepsi/Sports Plus schoolboy Manning Cup football competition following their hard-fought 1-0 win over Trench Town at Prison Oval.

Jonathan Grant (16 points), entered yesterday's game in a must win situation, while their opponent, (Trench Town, 17 points), who needed only a draw faltered at the final hurdle. Jonathan Grant now join Charlie Smith, defending champions Bridgeport, Kingston College and Dunoon as early qualifiers.

Group D has now produced two out of the five qualifiers for the 12-team quarter-final round. The teams are Kingston College, who defeated rivals St. George's College 2-1 on Saturday and Jonathan Grant.

At Tinson Pen, St. Andrew Technical (STATHS) improved their second round chances with an easy 2-0 win over Tivoli.

Andre Hinds opened STATHS account in the second minute of play when he ran through and beat two defenders before firing past Christopher Reid in goal. Oneil Christie doubled the score one minute from time with a beautiful left-foot shot from just inside the 18-yard-box.

St. Andrew Technical moved to 11 points, the same as Tivoli, but with a game in hand against leaders Dunoon (18 points), who defeated Tarrant 7-1 yesterday.

Norman Manley (14), who completed their fixture with a 0-0 against STATHS will now be hoping for the latter to lose their rescheduled clash against Dunoon for them to proceed.

Meanwhile, Kingston Technical (16) kept their second round berth alive with a 2-0 win over lowly placed Mona, while St. Jago's (15) 2-1 defeat at the hands of high-riding and Group F leaders Charlie Smith set them back.

Kingston High (nine) with goals from Kiero Brock and Jamora Johnson defeated Waterford (four) 2-1 to finish fourth in the Group (F) ahead of Mona (five).
