AmmarPRESIDENT OF the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Michael Ammar Jnr. has demanded responsible behaviour from all sides in today's election and reminded them that whoever wins they must unite the country.
"We call on our leaders to ensure a free and fair election for our people in victory or defeat," Mr. Ammar said in a statement. "Nothing short of a free and fair election will be acceptable to the people of Jamaica."
"Above all, what is important is not who wins and who loses but the manner in which they win or lose," he said. "For too long our country has been subjected to elections blemished by thuggery, intimidation and plain old-fashioned theft in order to gain political victory."
"This time," he continued, "nothing short of a free and fair election will be acceptable to the people of Jamaica. Any candidate or group who may be planning to use violence better think twice as we, the people of Jamaica, have had enough. Enough innocent blood has been spilled over the past 40 years in the quest for political power. There is no longer a place in our politics for electoral violence and bribery."
"Whoever wins the election will face the undaunting task of uniting our country, tackling our nation's massive debts and waging war on criminal elements which now hold our country to ransom," he said. "We must all realise that our true colours are black, green and gold."
