Amidst death, rain and power cuts the voting went on
ELECTION DAY broke on a bloody note in the Corporate Area yesterday with at least nine murders and gun battles in various areas, but it took power cuts and rain to slow down voting in some places.
Nine murdered, 7 in Rock Hall massacre
VIOLENCE IN sections of the Corporate Area yesterday claimed at least nine lives, left a district constable nursing gunshot wounds and sporadic gun battles between rival gunmen.
Incident-free voting
EXCEPT FOR several polling stations opening a few minutes late, voting in the eastern sections Kingston and parts of St. Andrew, went very well yesterday.
Mostly calm
A TENSE situation prevailed at the Waterford High School (South East St. Catherine), where a large number of People's National Party (PNP) and Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters dressed in orange and green crowded the school.

SPORADIC SHOOTINGS were reported across a number of Kingston's inner-city communities last night.
Smooth voting with little hiccups
POLLING WAS peaceful and for the most part smooth in North West St. Andrew yesterday. The polling stations in these constituencies opened at the scheduled 7 a.m.

VOTERS IN Central, South Central and South West St. Catherine went to the polls in a peaceful manner yesterday battling heavy rains and some initial problems at polling stations.
