Lawson, Breese in WI squad

CHENNAI, India, CMC:

UNCAPPED JERMAINE Lawson and Gareth Breese have been named in the West Indies 12-man squad and legspinner Mahendra Nagamootoo dropped for the second Test against India which started last night (jamaica time).

The final XI was to be named just before match time with fast bowler Lawson and off-spinning all-rounder Breese on the verge of debut spots in the team.

The Indians, who lead the series 1-0 after their innings and 112-run triumph in the first Test in Mumbai, were not expected to change their team.

The West Indies, badly beaten by India in their first Test last weekend, focussed this week on shaping the squad into a positive unit after the Mumbai disappointment and captain Carl Hooper has predicted an improved showing.

"We have obviously discussed loads of stuff since the last outing in Bombay (Mumbai), we think we are going to fare better in this Test match," Hooper said.

"It's not going to be easy (but) we've got to show (in our batting) a little bit more grit, a little bit more determination," Hooper said.

Teams:

West Indies (from) - Carl Hooper (captain), Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ryan Hinds, Ridley Jacobs, Gareth Breese, Mervyn Dillon, Pedro Collins, Jermaine Lawson, Cameron Cuffy.

India (likely) - Sourav Ganguly (captain), Sanjay Bangar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, V.V.S. Laxman, Parthiv Patel, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan.
