NEGRIL IS known for being a quiet little fishing village by the sea, where visitors come to romp on the seven mile stretch of white sandy beach (if one can simply ignore the sandbags which symptomise the erosion). It is also known for being a great party capital, being a great home for the hedonistic, as going barefoot (or even naked) is not frowned upon.
So, once again Negril Getaway shall return, this for the fourth time. The organisers of the event, Getaway Entertainment, recently told a gathering at a launch event that the party will provide a portal away from the stress and/or doldrums of everyday life. The event, which is being marketed as an adult, Caribbean beach party, promises to be one of those that should be worth the effort.
The four-year-old party will this year cut its teeth at Margaritaville, Negril. Margaritaville, which has made its own reputation as a fun capital, is quite a good selection for what promises to be a good party.
The fun is scheduled to begin at 12 noon on Heroes' Sunday, and to end at 7 p.m. This gives partiers a chance to get crazy from midday until dusk (seven hours), and then sleep off the madness before beginning work on Tuesday (unless they choose to engage in more important things and party again on Monday Heroes Day).
To get the 'bum-shaking' vibes going, Alison Hines (who has been known to send the male of the species into overdrive) and Square One of Barbados, will be doling out heart, feet and rump-shaking soca. The group has made a reputation with their highly energetic, sensational performances, coupled with their string of hits such as Faluma, Kitty Kat and Togetherness.
Music will also be provided by 'The Captain' Colin Hines of Fame FM. His job will be to keep the 'wheels of steel' turning with hip-hop, reggae and dance music. An as-yet unnamed reggae act is also billed for the event.
This combination seems to be a very potent one. Negril Getaway has another little trick in the bag. The party is an all-inclusive event, providing food, drink and cigarettes.
On the food menu, organisers are promising grilled lobster, shrimp, smoked ribs, smoked marlin and salmon among others. They also plan to cater for those who do not wish to turn the party into a complete pig fest by offering a lighter fare of cheeses and fruit to create a better balance.
On the side of drinks provided they plan to again cater to diverse tastes, offering margaritas, daquiris, lagers, whiskeys and rum.
Getaway Entertainment promises that with its everything-but-the-kitchen sink inclusive package, they provide the a great deal for your dollar. However at $2500 at the gate and $2200 pre-sold, these ticket prices are not for the faint of heart or pocket.
