Carter and 'garrison politics'

THE EDITOR, Sir:

FORMER PRESIDENT Carter is respected throughout the world. His work at the Carter Centre is greatly appreciated. Mr. Carter accepted the invitation to observe our elections. This does not give him the right to interfere in our domestic affairs.

Mr. Carter describes our politics as "garrison politics." He needs to take a look at his own country's politics where Democrats and Republicans may not practice the type of politics Mr. Carter describes. They practice what I would describe as "gutter politics."

Only recently (since September 11) have they decided to work together. Filibuster, mudslinging, partisan politics, are some of the type of politics being practised in America. My advice to Mr. Carter is to observe and keep his opinion to himself.

I am etc.,
