PNP supporters arrested

CLAREMONT:

TWO SUPPORTERS of the People's National Party (PNP) were arrested after an altercation with police personnel near the Brown's Town Courthouse on Friday morning.

Reports are that supporters of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) advanced on the courthouse and supporters of the PNP did likewise. They were stopped by the police and, in the process of warding them off, one man threatened and assaulted an officer while a woman obstructed the police.

PNP candidate for the St. Ann North West constituency, Arnold Bertram, intervened and addressed his supporters, who were sent back to the constituency office. The JLP supporters were also ordered by the police to go back to their constituency office.

Those arrested were Kemar Green 21, mason of Trysee; and Sharon Barnett, 38, unemployed of Trysee. They were later offered bail and sent home. The police and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) personnel were brought in to help diffuse tension in the area.
