Praising God loudly

THE EDITOR, Sir:

REGARDING A recent letter to the editor about the noise at a Seventh-Day Adventist church, I find it amusing. Perhaps it is the very absence of noise coming from worshippers on Saturday or Sunday that is becoming a problem for Jamaica and causing the worsening of Jamaica's problems.

The Bible says, in Psalm 105: "1. Praise ye the Lord, Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in the firmament of his power. 2. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. 3. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. 4. Praise him with the timbrel and dance; praise him with stringed instruments and organs. 5. Praise him upon the loud cymbals; praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. 6. Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord."

It sounds to me that to follow the Bible is to praise God loudly.

I believe everything has gone downhill since the silencing of the church bell and the amplification of the dance hall. However, noises that are within our control that intrudes on our neighbour's comfort after a reasonable hour, under normal circumstances, are inconsiderate.

I am etc.,
