What arrogance!

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I NOTE with consternation, several letters expressing disappointment and disbelief that the electorate chose to give the PNP and Prime Minister Patterson a fourth consecutive term.

While I respect these persons' right of view and expression of those views, I must say to them, people like myself who voted for PNP candidates, did so out of first, self love, and secondly, out of love of country and fellowmen, how dare you question the intelligence of the electorate who returned the PNP to power, what arrogance!

I voted for the PNP because of the solid achievements, namely, the first-rate bus system in the KMR, the massive road infrastructure improvement, including Old Harbour Bypass, Melrose Hill Bypass, Hope Road Improvement, Three Miles improvement, Michael Manley/Florizel Glasspole Drive construction, Washington Boulevard improvement etc.

I voted PNP because of the government's stellar performance in facilitating low and mid-income housing projects through the NHT, NHDC, and other private companies. I voted PNP for facilitating the massive improvement in telecommunications, both cellular and fixed lines. I voted PNP because of the improvements in the motor vehicle importation policy.

I voted PNP because Mr. Patterson embraces peace, values and attitude to which I subscribe. I voted PNP because the leader does not praise and support criminal gunmen and curse and vilify hardworking police officers. I voted PNP because I honestly could not vote for the Opposition and look my son in the eye and feel comfortable with the decision. I voted PNP because I want to protect my children's future.

Now, do I sound illiterate because I voted PNP? Or did I do it because of enlightened self-interest?

I am etc.,
