Policewoman's trial postponed

VIRIS CHRISTIE, the policewoman who is charged with the murder of Natash Stephens, cosmetologist, of Portmore, St. Catherine, appeared in the Home Circuit Court yesterday and was ordered to return on January 7, 2003.

Stephens, 25, was found dead on the Portmore Causeway on September 21, 1999. Christie was shot four times the same day Stephens' body was found. Christie was attacked as she drove into an apartment complex in St. Andrew.

It is alleged that Stephens was involved in a sexual relationship with Christie's Nigerian husband, who reportedly flew out of the island days before both shootings. Christie and the Nigerian were married on May 16, 1996.

Christie's case was set for trial yesterday, but the prosecution applied for another trial date. Christie is on bail pending the outcome of her trial.

Attorneys-at-law Valerie Neita-Robertson and Carolyn Reid are representing Christie.
