THOUSANDS OF residents in several Clarendon communities are now experiencing irregularities in their water supply, which has been attributed to inconsistent power supply at the National Water Commission (NWC) pumping stations in the parish.
A senior officer at the Commission's May Pen Office told The Gleaner that, within the last three weeks, the problem has intensified in some communities consistent with the increase in power outages in the parish.
The affected communities include Twin Palm, Green Bottom, Longville Park, Sandy Bay, Cross, Rosewell, and Freetown.
The NWC source said that the commission has been trucking water to the affected communities, however, according to him "this cannot satisfy the demand that exists in these communities." He continued that persons, who have been affected by the irregular water supply, have bombarded the commission with calls on a daily basis to seek explanation as to the cause for such occurrence.
"What we have to explain to them is that without electricity, our pumps cannot function," he said.
When contacted District Manager at the JPSCo's, May Pen offices, Beresford Williams, said he was aware of the problem, however, he referred all queries to the company's corporate communication's manager, Hubert Lawrence. Calls to Mr. Lawrence's office proved futile as he was not in. No other communication personnel could provide information on the situation.
