Call for crime plan

SENIOR ADVISER in Enchanted Youth Organisation, Dave Morris, is calling on the Ministry of National Security to immediately implement plans, out of the recently held youth consultation on crime and violence, to help stem the present crime problem facing the society.

Speaking with The Gleaner on Tuesday in Spanish Town, Mr. Morris said the present wave of criminal violence rocking the society must be halted now and the young people are the ones with the solution. He said the Enchanted Youth Organisation, which participated in the consultations, believe that the staging of the event was timely and implementation should also be timely.

We cannot leave the fighting of crime to Paul Burke, Desmond McKenzie, the police force and Bishop Herro Blair, it has to be the responsibility of all of us, Mr. Morris lamented.

The one day youth consultation on crime and violence, organised by the Ministry of National Security in September 2002, involved just under 3000 young people representing over 20 youth organisations. According to Mr. Morris, his group has started to implement some of the recommendations with the recent establishment of operation ESAPP (Enchanted Substance Abuse Prevention Programme).
