H. View discipline Rivoli

STRIKER JOMO Gordon fired Harbour View to the top of the rain-hit Premiership League yesterday, scoring a hat-trick inside the first 19 minutes for a big 5-2 win against homesters Rivoli United at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

Gordon's hat-trick, his first strike in the 16th second followed by goals in the 14th and 19th minutes, pushed Harbour View to 17 points, one ahead of joint leaders Arnett Gardens and Hazard United, whose Corporate Area games were abandoned due to heavy mid-afternoon rainfall.

In other games, Tivoli Gardens played to their second goalless draw in three days - held to a stalemate by Waterhouse at Ferdie Neita Park, and Bull Bay finally halted a four-game losing streak, tying Reno 0-0 at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium.

At Constant Spring, the homesters match-up with Hazard never got under way whereas the Arnett-Village United showdown of unbeaten teams was blown off by referee Victor Stewart after 36 minutes with the score tied 0-0 at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex.

The day, however, belonged to Harbour View's Gordon, who transferred from cash-strapped Duhaney Park this season. Gordon stunned Rivoli's fans 16 seconds after kick-off before adding two more goals in 19 minutes.

Rivoli captain Patrick Beech netted in the 37th for a 3-1 halftime scoreline before Nicholas McCreath made it 4-1 12 minutes after the break.

Putting up a spirited fight despite being two goals down, Rivoli reduced the margin to 4-2 when Santino Simpson scored in the 72nd. However, midfielder Daniel Shaw turned off the lights on Harold Thomas' side three minutes from time to make it 5-2.

Harbour View coach Donovan Hayles afterwards said his team applied a lesson he had been teaching them for a while.

"This is something I've always told the players ... the first 15 minutes of a game is when a team is most vulnerable. Once we have the pass-off, we should just attack. They did that today and it paid-off," Hayles said.

Rivoli, Hayles said, played a determined game even though they were always behind.

"Despite the score, they pressed us for the entire 90 minutes," he noted. "The score doesn't reflect how the game was played. It wasn't easy at all."
