THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE FUNERAL of five family members over the weekend who died in a road accident serves as a horrific reminder of the consequences of improper driving habits. The loss of one family member can be horrific and while many of us may not lose five family members all at once, the grief that accompanies that act is something some of us can only imagine.
This is a reminder to both pedestrians and drivers, the rules and regulations exist for our own safety. Far too many of us flippantly flout the regulations of the road and continue to do so as long as we are not caught in the act and we never seem to think of the consequences that may arise.
The thought of being a victim of a road accident is something we never think of as it always is happening to someone else.
What if you became a victim and were left crippled with serious bodily injuries? What if you die? What if you killed someone? This would be is an irreversible mistake. What about the lives destroyed?
This is the reality of road accidents. There clearly are no winners in this race. None of us, I am sure, want to trade places with family members grieving, the victims or the driver of the other motor vehicle who survived the incident.
I am etc.,
