THE PRESS Association of Jamaica (PAJ) is inviting entries from media practitioners for its 2001-2002 Media Awards, to be announced during National Journalism Week at the end of November.
Journalism Week is the time when focus is placed on the print and broadcast media. Outstanding work produced during the past year in print, photography and in the electronic media is reviewed; and the performance of media practitioners honoured.
The Week will be launched with a church service on Sunday, November 24 at Webster Memorial; and culminate with the annual Journalism Awards Ceremony and Presentation on Saturday, November 30, at the Courtleigh Hotel. A special exhibition will also be mounted during the week and the media spotlight will be focused on one of Jamaica's veteran journalists.
Entries for this year's Journalism Awards are now being invited and will remain open until the end of October. Entry forms are available from the News Editors/Directors at most media houses; or from any member of the PAJ executive.
PAJ president Glen McFarlane says that with present expansion of the media landscape he expects there will be a significant increase in the number of entries this year, especially with contributions in the broadcast range.
However, he has appealed for early submissions from potential awardees, emphasising that the judges need time to make their assessments and field reports.
Mr. McFarlane said today: "I urge all media workers to take pride in celebrating Journalism Week 2002; to participate in the activities and in so doing demonstrate strength and esprit de corps within the profession."
