
James to lead teamFIVE overseas players were yesterday named by the Jamaica Football Federation in a squad of 18 to represent the country in the second CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup, which takes place in Canada and the United State between October 27 and November 9.
The players are Latoya Linton, Alicia Wilson (former captain), Nichole Berwise, Nordia Reid and Genieva Sinclair.
Also among the Christopher Bender-coached team are six members of the Under-19 team, Michelle Depass, and Denise Duncan of champions Portmore Strikers, Hishamar Falconer, Jodi-Ann McGregor, Philicia Lewis and Sharika Evans.
The squad will leave for Canada on Sunday before taking on Costa Rica in their opening match on Wednesday at 6:00p.m. The Gold Cup will also serve as CONCACAF qualifying for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2003 in China.
The top two finishers gain automatic berths to next year's world championship, with the third-place winner in the Gold Cup to face the third-placed team in Asian Football Confederation qualifying tournament for the final spot.
