C&W and Caller ID

THE EDITOR, Sir:

FOR QUITE some time now there has been an obvious fault on the switches on the Cable & Wireless wired (land) lines, resulting in them not being able to relay the Automatic Number Identification (ANI). Consequently, Caller ID has not been functioning on our wired lines.

Strange enough, however, I have not heard or read any apology from Cable & Wireless on this matter. Neither, for that matter, have I heard anything about subscribers getting any kind of rebate for a service not delivered.

Incidentally, the Caller ID functionality continues to work quite well on the mobile service, but then there is no longer a tight monopoly on mobile telephony. Ah, that explanation would be too simplistic; it must be mere coincidence! I wonder what is the OUR take on this?

I am etc.,
