Proud Jamerican

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am Jamaican born and raised and so proud of it. After 22 years of active duty in the U.S. Army I retired in 1998. I had to become a US citizen to remain on active duty so I guess I am now a "Jamerican".

I cannot tell you how sad I was to hear the news that one of the snipers was born in Jamaica. It's a sad day for me because so many of us have tried to do the right thing by America - now our people are going to literally catch hell.

My father served as Inspector in the Jamaica Constabulary Force. If he was still with us he would be outraged at the behaviour of this suspect. Now I guess they will want to send more of our people back as a punishment.

My prayers go out to the families and all the people who will have to suffer because someone else has stepped on Jamaica again. One Love, always.

I am etc,
