Hellish death traps on wheels

THE EDITOR, Sir:

RECENTLY TWO schoolchildren were killed by carelessness. This is just an example and a forerunner of what is in store for us as a result of allowing people to do anything they want and get away with it. Our children and innocent citizens will pay with their blood for the wrongdoing of others.

I personally witness a demonstration of this lethal carelessness every week-day driving back down Long Lane from dropping my children at school. The buses packed with school children are being driven by what must be satanic forces in human form, at 70 and 80 miles per hour, passing long lines of cars which are going at a reasonable and legal pace. Belching and blowing out thick smoke, these hellish death traps on wheels are the kings of their routes, and they race each other for the hell of it.

What happens to them? Nothing at all. What happens to those who get in their way? At the very least, inconvenience and insults, and at the worst, agonising death.

Needless to say, these 'drivers' are often egged on by their passengers, who are enthusiastic thrill-seekers, except perhaps for those over 40 years old who have seen a few things and are wiser.

Laws are there to be enforced upon those who have not seen, and will perhaps never see, until they kill someone's little pride and joy and destroy the life and the potential we in this country so desperately need.

We have earned our reputation ten times over.

I am, etc.,

L. DUPERROUZEL
