FOUR men who were detained by the police for allegedly stuffing ballot boxes and attempting to steal one of the boxes from a polling station at the National Works Agency office in May Pen on election day, are to face an identification parade today.
The identification parade was rescheduled from last week Friday, because a lawyer involved in the case was unable to attend.
The four men were held about a mile from the polling station in the Chateau area of May Pen in the afternoon on election day, through the quick action of the police about a mile from the polling station.
According to Supt. Warren Clarke, head of the Clarendon Police Division, they were found with a Beretta semi-automatic pistol and nine 9mm cartridges.
It was reported to the police that four men invaded the polling station about 10.40 a.m., stuffed a ballot box and assaulted two presiding officers. They escaped before the security detail on the compound could hold them.
As a result, voting was suspended for two hours at the polling station and it resumed only after extra security personnel from the military were sent there.
Supt. Clarke said they have already been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He added that if they are identified at the parade, they would be slapped with an additional charge of electoral fraud.
