Getting back to basics

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHAT A monumental start for the first sitting of the new Cabinet to start with biblical devotions with a minister of the gospel!

This is a very significant move in the life of this nation and an important first step in getting back to basics. That is turning back to God. It is very important that this turning point begins with our leaders. It is not unusual for a government to acknowledge God and the servants of God as this was a basic principle in the days of old. King David, King Solomon etc., consulted with the priests and God Himself to obtain God's mandate for the nation on every aspect of rule.

It is the time to press in to God and continue to ask Him to rule and direct the affairs of this nation. It is the time for those who are godly to pray in a time when God may be found [Psalm 32:6]. It is the time for us to hold up our leaders and pray for them as they are God's authority in the land. It is time for us to cease the complaining and grumbling and give God thanks for the good things he has done for us, because He has done great things.

As someone said, "If we spend a lot of time criticising then we won't have any time to love." I believe that there is hope for Jamaica and that hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ.

I am, etc.,
