J'cans in Canada donate to flood relief fund

THE JAMAICAN High Commission in Canada has received over Cdn$4,000 from Jamaican communities in Ottawa, Vancouver and Montreal, including contributions from Honorary Consuls to help in the island's flood relief effort.

The most recent contribution of some Cdn$1,000 was raised from a "Spinner's Choice Oldies Session" hosted by Noel Alexander, President of the Jamaica Association of Montreal (JAM) recently at the Tiffany's Club in the Canadian city.

Patron of the event, Jamaica's High Commissioner to Canada, His Excellency Raymond Wolfe, joined other selectors in playing vintage and current hits from the dancehall and soca genres.

Despite the heavy rains, which affected attendance, those who turned out had a good time and the 'spinners' made the evening memorable.

Before the evening ended, the High Commissioner and Mr. Alexander thanked the Jamaican community in Montreal for their generous donations towards assisting the victims of the heavy rains.

The funds raised will be paid over to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) to assist in the relief and recovery effort.
