Be proud to be Jamaican

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE (JAMAICANS) have now become the latest victim of the sniper, without a bullet hitting us.

I am a bit perturbed about how we Jamaicans have taken the negative side of this and put everything Jamaican on hold or hiding in a hole. We have taken off the JTB advertisements from television and some of us are even failing to say we are Jamaicans.

I work with and among 99 per cent whites in Boston and I, as an individual, can and will defend my country with pride and dignity. I am more of a proud Jamaican a.k.a.Yardie, I am a patriot. We are the children of Nanny, Paul Bogle, George William Gordon, the Rt. Excellent Norman Manley, Sir Alexander Bustamante, Sam Sharp and Marcus Garvey.

Within us must be light that has made us a proud and strong nation bad, or good. Every nation has it faults and none is perfect. So, my fellow Jamaicans, be proud of who we are and let not one individual destroy us and our country. Out of every bad comes good. One love.

I am, etc.,
