JMMB - profile of a healthy workplace

THE JAMAICA Money Market Brokers Limited (JMMB), a local investment firm, has a corporate wellness programme which the Health Ministry would like to see replicated across the country in its national healthy lifestyle strategy.

Diana Burgess, JMMB's cultural development and training officer says that the company has a wholistic approach to wellness, beginning with its vision and mission.

"We are continuously working to ensure that the total person is taken care of... our success is largely attributed to our investment in team members who in turn provide exceptional service to our clients," she said.

Vision of love ­ the driving force of the organisation is to provide opportunities for team players to expand their potential; recognise the power within and their ability to fully express and manifest this power to the benefit of the individual, the organisation and the society.

Mission ­ to be a dynamic multifaceted investment institution that operates in a caring, loving and fun environment where employees are creative and content. Ensuring customer satisfaction through the optimum use of technology and continuous improvement on a path of excellence.

Work hours ­ JMMB has flexi-working hours with starting times ranging from 7 a.m. through to 11 a.m. for an eight-hour workday.

Nursery ­ a fully-equipped nursery is available to team members for their children.

Meals ­ all team members at JMMB are provided with two meals daily, a mid-morning snack and lunch. In the event that a team member must work for a minimum of two-and-a-half hours after their regular working hours then supper is provided, and they are reimbursed for taxi fare.

Relaxation/Fitness ­ JMMB provides team members with a gym and instructor at its head office or covers this cost for team members at remote branches. There is also a masseuse who visits with all departments to give neck massage and reflexology to team members. JMMB also has a relaxed yet professional dress code.

Mental health ­ JMMB has retained the services of a professional counsellor whom team members may visit if the need arises.

Fun ­ JMMB has a sports club that organises sporting and fun activities on an ongoing basis. There is an annual fun day for both team members and their families.

Development ­ for team members' development JMMB has a study assistance programme.
