WESTERN BUREAU:
A 40-YEAR-old man from Mount Salem, Montego Bay, St. James was set upon and chopped to death by an angry mob in New River, St. Elizabeth, early yesterday morning after he allegedly attacked and gun-butted a man at his ex-girlfriend's house on Monday night and abducted the woman.
The dead man has been identified as Dave Gibson, a painter, while the boyfriend, Everton Brown, farmer of New River district, Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, was treated in the Black River Hospital for head injuries and released.
Corporal Angella Williams, CCN Liaison Officer for St. Elizabeth police, told The Gleaner that about 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Gibson went to a house in New River where his ex-girlfriend resided with another man. He reportedly barged into the house and attacked the man, hitting him over the head with a gun.
It's further reported he abducted his former girlfriend, Karen Myles, 21, from the house and dragged her into nearby bushes as he was unable to drive out his car.
The car was subsequently set on fire, reportedly by the residents who had gone in search of him but did not find him.
Early yesterday morning at about 5:00, he emerged from the bushes with the girl and residents set upon him and chopped him all over his body. One resident later told The Gleaner that despite Gibson's climbing a tree and pleading for his life the mob showed no mercy. He succumbed to his injuries.
The Santa Cruz police say no suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. The lawmen say the residents are tight-lipped about the incident.
Meanwhile the bodies of two unidentified men believed to be between the ages of 24 and 28 were found floating in the sea, in the vicinity of Farm district, Westmoreland yesterday morning.
According to the police, each body had a gunshot wound to the head.
The Bluefields police believe the men were killed in bushes near the Farm district coastline and dumped in the sea. According to the lawmen at the Bluefields Police Station, because of the remoteness of the area where the bodies were found, the killings could have gone unnoticed by residents.
This double killing brings to 29 the murder toll in Westmoreland since the start of the year. Last year, there was a total of 31 murders in that parish.
